WHAT DO i DO IF MY TRAXITALL REGISTRATION CODE DOESN'T WORK?

PRINTABLE VERSION OF THIS HELP ENTRY

NOTE: With version 1.6., released in May of 2005,
we updated our registration codes.

Most users who purchased version 1.5 or below will find that their codes won't work with the versions 1.6 and above, even though all 1.x upgrades are free.

You should have received an email from us on Monday, 7/11/05 or Tuesday, 7/12/05 with your revised registration code. If you do not have that code, please contact us and we will re-send.

After you purchase TraxItAll, we send you a registration code that you need to enter on your Palm. If you don't enter the code, the program will stop working after 30 days until you do enter it.

For your Palm, there is only one code that will work to register TraxItall. This is because, as with most commercial  Palm software, TraxItAll registration codes are created based on Palm User ID's. (You gave us the User ID for your Palm at the time you made your purchase.)

If the registration code doesn't work it means that either you sent us an incorrect Palm User ID, or you entered the wrong code, or that we sent you an incorrect code.

To fix this problem, first make sure that the registration code you entered matches the one we sent you. If it does, but the program still does not accept it, take the following steps:

1. Check to be sure you gave us the right User ID.
The best way to do this is to look at the bottom of the Registration screen. Your Palm User ID is displayed after the line, "Request registration code for:" In the example below, as shown within the circle, it says "Your User ID."

NOTE: For the registration to be accepted, the User ID you give us must match exactly the User ID for your Palm, including periods and spaces.

2. Use the "Contact Us" link above to send us an email to request a new registration code. If the User ID you first sent us was not correct, you will need to send us the correct User ID.

NOTE: The email you use for this request must be the same one you used for your original purchase.

3. If we determine that the registration code we sent you was correct for the User ID you gave us, we may ask you to verify that you have sent the correct code. You can do this by following a few simple steps:

A. Open the Palm desktop software on your computer.

B. Do a screen capture, i.e., tell your computer take a picture of exactly how your screen looks.

NOTE: Formost Windows users this will simply require hitting the "Print Screen" key which is usually found at the top of the keyboard.

C. Open your word processing software, such as Microsoft Word, and paste the screen capture into the document.

NOTE: In Microsoft Word and most Windows programs you can do this by going to the file menu and selecting "Paste."

D. An image of your Palm desktop software should now be in your document. This will show your Palm User ID in the top right corner. Save the document.

NOTE: If there is any private information in the screen print you do not want us to see, such as names and telephone numbers, drag a different application, such as Windows Explorer, over that information before making the print.

E. Use the "Contact Us" link above to send us an email. Attach the document containing the screen print.

HOW DO I BACK UP MY TRAXITALL DATA FILES?

PRINTABLE VERSION OF THIS HELP ENTRY

NOTE: This help entry is relatively long because it is written for users with very little technical knowledge. However, it is actually quite easy to backup your TraxItAll data files.

NOTE: If you have currently lost the data files on your Palm, do not back up your files now. Instead, go back to the top and follow the steps in the help entry on how to restore your TraxItAll data files.

It's very important that, from time to time, you make your own backup of your TraxItAll data files. Doing so will ensure that you still have your data in the event the system deletes its own backups.

Whenever you perform a hotsync between your desktop and handheld computer your TraxItAll data files are automatically backed up to your desktop computer.

NOTE: A hotsync takes place when you put your Palm computer in its cradle and either press the cradle's hostync button or click the hotsync icon on the desktop computer.

The purpose of the procedure below is to make your own copy of the backup files that are on your desktop computer, in case the system automatically deletes the backups it has made.

To make you own backup, take the steps below.

1.
PERFORM A HOTSYNC.

The purpose of performing a hotsync is to ensure that the backup of the TraxItAll data files on your desktop computer is current.

There are three TraxItAll data files:

Tbb1_TData.PDB
Tbb1_TDefine.PDB
Tbb1_TPref.PDB

Whenever you perform a hotsync of your Palm handheld, these files are automatically placed in the Palm backup folder on your desktop computer.

Check that your files were backed up successfully during the hotsync by clicking on your desktop's hotsync icon and selecting "View Log" on the menu that appears.

NOTE: The hotsync icon is a circular red and blue
icon that should be near the bottom right corner
of your desktop computer’s screen.

You should see a message that looks something like this:

-- Backing up db Tbb1_TPref to file

C:\Palm\~\Backup\Tbb1_TPref.PDB
-- Backing up db Tbb1_TData to file

C:\Palm\~\Backup\Tbb1_TData.PDB
-- Backing up db Tbb1_TDefine to file

C:\Palm\~\Backup\Tbb1_TDefine.PDB
OK System

The path above shows the folder the files are backed up to.

NOTE: The above is only an example, since the exact path will vary with each computer.

Look in this folder to be sure all three files are there, and
that their create date and time is current.

2. MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF ALL THREE OF THE
TRAXITALL DATA FILES THAT ARE ON YOUR DESKTOP COMPUTER.

You need to be sure you backup all three files:

Tbb1_TData.PDB
Tbb1_TDefine.PDB
Tbb1_TPref.PDB

You can create a new folder on your desktop, or in
another convenient location, and copy the files there.

NOTE: Do not put the folder for your backup files
within the folder that contains the backup created
automatically during the Hotsync. This may confuse the system.

NOTE: Be sure not to delete the files from the folder the system puts them in. Instead, copy the files to the new location, leaving the first set of files where they were.

This completes the backup procedure.

HOW DO I RESTORE MY TRAXITALL DATA FILES,
OR MOVE THEM TO ANOTHER PALM COMPUTER?

PRINTABLE VERSION OF THIS HELP ENTRY

NOTE: This help entry is relatively long because it is written for users with very little technical knowledge. However, it is actually quite easy to restore your TraxItAll data files.

NOTE: If you restore your TraxItAll data files from an old backup, all data entered since the backup was taken will be lost. Therefore, this procedure should only be followed if you have lost the data on you Palm handheld.

1. LOCATE YOUR TRAXITALL DATA FILES BACKUP.

A. To locate these files, click on your desktop's hotsync icon and select "View Log" on the menu that appears.

NOTE: The hotsync icon is a circular red and blue
icon that should be near the bottom right corner
of your desktop computer’s screen.

You should see a message that looks something like this:

-- Backing up db Tbb1_TPref to file

C:\Palm\~\Backup\Tbb1_TPref.PDB
-- Backing up db Tbb1_TData to file

C:\Palm\~\Backup\Tbb1_TData.PDB
-- Backing up db Tbb1_TDefine to file

C:\Palm\~\Backup\Tbb1_TDefine.PDB
OK System

The path above shows the folder the files are backed up to.

NOTE: The above is only an example, since the
path will vary with each computer.

Your TraxItAll data files are in this folder.

B. Instead of following A., you can perform a search for the files using the standard search method provided by your computer.

NOTE: For Windows users, the files will most likely be on your C drive.

NOTE: If you have made your own backups of the TraxItAll files, as described in the help entry on backing up your data (Back to Top.), you can restore from those backups. However, you should try to use the system-created backup first, since that will have the most current files. You should only restore from your own backup if the system-created backup is not available.

2. PLACE THE TRAXITALL BACKUP FILES IN YOUR PALM INSTALLER TOOL.

If you need to restore your data, double-click on this file:

Tbb1_TData.PDB

NOTE: This will bring up the Palm Installer tool.

If you need to restore your set-up information (i.e., the tracks and categories you've created), double-click on this file:

       Tbb1_TDefine.PDB

You may also restore the other TraxItAll file, but doing so will cause the loss of your registration information, so you will need to re-enter you registration code. (If you do not have that code you can contact us and we will re-send it to you.)

       Tbb1_TPref.PDB

Click the "Done" button on the Palm Installer tool.

NOTE: If you also need to re-install the TraxItAll program itself, it will most likely be in the same directory. The file is:

TraxItAll.prc.

If you are hot syncing more than one Palm device to your computer, be sure that, in the installer tool, you have the correct Palm User ID selected. (It's displayed at the top of the screen.)

3. PERFORM A HOTSYNC.

You need to perform a hotsync to copy the files from your desktop computer to your Palm computer.

You can do this by putting your Palm computer in its cradle and either pressing the cradle's hostync button or by clicking the hotsync icon on the desktop computer.

NOTE: The hotsync icon is a circular red and  blue icon that should be near the bottom right corner of your desktop computer’s screen.

Open TraxItAll on your Palm computer. You should see your data there.
